Theory Test

Car Theory Test

What do you need to bring to the DVSA theory test?

Quick answer

Bring your GB photocard driving licence (provisional or full). Without it you will be turned away and lose the booking fee. Check gov.uk for the current accepted-document list before you travel.

Your photocard licence

You must bring your valid GB photocard driving licence. The name and photo must match you. If you have an old-style paper licence or a licence from another country, check gov.uk well in advance for what extra ID you need to bring.

No phones or notes inside

You cannot take phones, watches, notes or other personal items into the test room -- most centres provide a locker. Bring as little as possible and arrive ready to store your belongings.

Arrive early and prepared

Get to the centre about 15 minutes early to allow time for the check-in process. If your licence does not match or is missing, you cannot sit the test and the fee is lost. Confirm the requirements on gov.uk in the week before your test.

This is general guidance from an independent study app, not official advice. Always confirm current requirements and fees on gov.uk.
